Geoff Diaz
Governor bill Haslam appointed affiliate broker Geoffrey “Geoff” Diaz to the Real Estate Commission. Diaz’s resume includes time as a policy analyst and correspondence aide in the late 1990s for Massachusetts Republican Governor Paul Celluci and 12 years in Washington, D.C., on the staffs of U.S. Representative Robert Aderholt of Alabama and Representative Joe Skeen of New Mexico. He moved to Memphis in 2010 with his wife in support her job at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. His wife Robyn is an attorney and serves St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital as their chief legal adviser. While Commissioner Diaz is a full-time real estate professional, he acknowledges that his background is in politics and government. Commissioner Diaz has been active politically in Memphis where he has worked as a volunteer and organizer of efforts at Kingsbury Middle and High schools in the core of the city and has campaigned for a seat as a Shelby County commissioner. Locally, he believes there needs to be a focus on the urban side because a healthy Downtown Memphis and a healthy urban core for the city means the whole county benefits. His experiences severing on the staff of a governor and two congressmen should provide Commissioner Diaz with the background to be an exceptional Real Estate Commissioner. Real Estate Commissioners are appointed by the Governor from a list of candidates recommended by various legislators. Their term of office is for five years and can be re-appointed to a second term.
